Religion
One of the many things I love most about America is that we have a 1st Amendment right to freedom of religion. Notice it says freedom of religion, not freedom from religion.
In our church, we have 13 Articles of Faith. Number 11 says: “We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our [own] conscience, and allow all men the same privilege[,] let them worship how, where, or what they may.
Religion is a major part of my life. When I was 18 I became a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I am the only member of this faith in my core family. I married in the faith and have raised both of my children in the faith.
As a Christian, I believe fully in the atonement of Jesus Christ. He is the Son of our Heavenly Father. He was the only sinless person who ever lived. He atoned for all of us to be able to return to our Heavenly Father. He was crucified and was resurrected. That is my faith.
Since I love the Constitution, I support everyone else’s right to worship as they please, so long as they allow me to do the same. I have friends of other Christian faiths, and friends who are not Christian at all. Friends of different religions of the world. My view is that overall, we are a lot more similar than we are different. Most of us acknowledge a supreme being, or a higher power if you will. I happen to call my Higher Power Heavenly Father, and my Savior Jesus Christ. I feel close to Him, and I feel I love Him. In order for me to do that, I also have to allow you to do the same.
May God be with you until we meet or meet again. RDG
